Welcome to FLYRINGOKITE

Where Childhood Memories Soar

Crafting and flying kites isn't just a pastime—it's a connection to my roots, my childhood, and the skies above the hills of St. Ann, Jamaica. At FLYRINGOKITE, every creation tells a story woven from memories, bamboo, and wind.

A Journey That Started in the Countryside.

The spark began when I was just a boy running wild through the lush countryside of St. Ann, Jamaica, West Indies. Kite flying wasn't just fun—it was a tradition, an art form, and a rite of passage. My very first kite? Built at age seven from a palm stick, torn plastic bags, and—much to my mother's dismay—strips of her bed sheets. That lesson came with a few beatings, but the joy of watching that crude kite lift into the sky made it all worthwhile.

As the years passed, so did my skills. By ten, my kite designs had evolved into sleek, vibrant, and high-flying works of art. And every Easter, starting on Good Friday, we'd fill the Caribbean skies with the hum of buzzing bamboo kites.

Easter in Jamaica: A Celebration of Wind and Wonder.

In Jamaica, Easter is more than a holiday—it's an experience. Picture this:

  • The smell of fresh Easter buns and cheese

  • Families preparing Good Friday fish meals

  • Palm Sunday processions down village roads

  • And, most vividly, skies alive with kites swaying in the wind

Each Easter morning, we'd rise with the roosters and climb the hillside to catch the best wind. By sun-up, the deep blue sky was already dotted with vibrant tails, long arcs of twine, and the familiar "zing" of bamboo buzzing overhead.

Cutting Day: The Grand Finale.

Easter Monday was no ordinary day—it was Cutting Day. A day of excitement and rivalry, when kite flyers strapped halves of razor blades to their tails to cut the twine of competing kites mid-air. It wasn't just about winning; it was about skill, strategy, and adrenaline.

Losing a kite to a well-timed cut was part of the tradition, and watching your kite drift away was just another chapter in the rich culture of Jamaican kite flying.

A Global Tradition, A Personal Legacy.

Many cultures—from China to India to the South Pacific—lay claim to the origins of kite flying. For me, it's the stories passed down from grandparents, and yes, the famous tale of Benjamin Franklin proving lightning was electricity with a kite (don't try that at home!).

For years, I continued this passion in the United States, building kites for friends and family. Their encouragement—and the awe they showed at my craftsmanship—inspired me to launch FLYRINGOKITE.

FLYRINGOKITE: Let Your Spirit Soar.

Every FLYRINGOKITE is handcrafted with the same heart and soul I poured into my first one all those years ago. Whether you're reliving your own childhood memories or creating new ones with your family, these kites are more than just objects—they're stories in flight.

Join me. Let's fill the skies together.
